GRPD: Officer Involved in Fatal Shooting on Southeast Side

GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - Michigan State Police are now investigating after a Grand Rapids Police Department officer was involved in a fatal shooting on the southeast side this morning.

It happened after 8 a.m.

Chief Eric Winstrom said the officer fired his weapon during a traffic stop altercation that became physical.

The officer is recovering from non-life threatening injuries at a hospital. His body camera fell off during the incident.

Winstrom says a person inside the vehicle and other witnesses are being interviewed.
