Training Kent Co. deputy on leave after shooting unoccupied car

A Kent County Sheriff's deputy that was in training is now on administrative leave after firing shots into an unoccupied vehicle early Friday.

Deputies were responding to a crash on 36th Street near Patterson Avenue around 1:50 a.m. Friday.

The training deputy fired two shots into the unoccupied, crashed vehicle around 2:40 a.m.

No one was injured during the incident.

It is unclear what led up to the shots being fired.

Both deputies on scene were wearing body cameras and footage will be reviewed.

The Wyoming Public Safety Department is reviewing the incident.
