Grand Rapids City Manager Mark Washington is thanking outgoing Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Payne while welcoming Eric Winstrom as the next chief.
An open house is scheduled for March 4 from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. to celebrate Payne's 34 years of service.
The open house is open to the public and will be held at GRPD headquarters.
Washington says Winstrom was selected after feedback from the community, department and other community outlets.
He will be sworn in on March 7 at 5:30 p.m.
