Below-Freezing Stretch Far From GR Record

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Arctic temperatures continue to come through West Michigan as a polar jet stream will bring in a six-day stretch of below-freezing temperatures around the area.

However, it is a far cry from the cold stretch the Greater Grand Rapids area saw 40 years ago, where there was a 35-day stretch in both 1975 and 1985 that saw below-freezing temperatures. This includes a record in 1976, with almost 46 straight days below 32 degrees.

This time around, warmer weather will likely return to West Michigan by Feb. 1. Promises of mid-30s and rain could be enough to create some localized flooding and especially ice jam concerns.
