GR employee embezzled $63K

A former Grand Rapids city employee embezzled over $63,000 as she oversaw the public auction of impounded vehicles.

Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker charged 34-year-old Lenee Brooks with embezzlement of $50,000 or more, but less than $100,000.

Brooks is no longer employed with the city according to a spokesperson.

Brooks supervised the impound auctions at the Grand Rapids Impound Lot on Market Ave. however Merritt Auctions and Tent Rentals ran the auctions.

GRPD says Brooks would add up the checks and cash from the auction and take the money to city hall where she would enter the amount in a data base.
