State Police Investigating Officer's Gunfire in Newaygo County

FREMONT (WOOD-AM) - A routine investigation is underway after a Newaygo County Sheriff's sergeant fired a gun at a man during a call-out for a domestic incident in Fremont.

It happened after 5 p.m.

The suspect reportedly had a pair of guns. Investigators with the Michigan State Police say the officer opened fire after the man leveled one of his weapons.

There were no injuries reported. The man was arrested.

The sergeant will remain on administrative leave until the investigation wraps up.
