Former Grand Rapids Housing Commission Employee Admits to Embezzlement

GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - A jail and probation sentence was handed down to a former Grand Rapids Housing Commission employee after she admitted to stealing over $20,000 from subsidized housing residents.

Tachianna Walton, who lives at Campau Commons, tells WOOD-TV that she ended up in court for non-payment of rent after handing money orders to 52-year-old Esther McMurray.

"Because it happened to me, it could happen to someone else," Walton said.

McMurray was also ordered to pay restitution. She says some of that money has already been paid back.
