Housing is the biggest need as Afghan refugees arrive in W. MI

The first Afghan refugees are arriving in West Michigan.

Bethany Christian Services and Samaritas are working as the primary resettlement agencies in the area.

The most immediate need for the refugees is housing.

The groups are creating a survey to see what options the community has to offer.

Samaritas Executive Director of Affordable Living Development Joel Lautenbach says sometimes rental properties can be set aside for six months to a year to help refugees settling in the area.
