Gear library to help get urban families outdoors

The city of Grand Rapids is launching a new kind of library aimed at getting families outside.

The gear library will have anything from hiking boots to sleeping bags and will give access to families who may not be able to afford the expensive equipment.

The program is funded by corporate sponsors which means the equipment will be free of cost to renters.

The library underwent a trial period over the last year.
