Spectrum Health says assaults against employees up

Spectrum Health says assaults on health care workers are increasing as the pandemic continues.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Joshua Kooistra says front-line workers have gone from heroes to enemies in the matter of months.

Physicians, nurses and respiratory therapists have been spit at, kicked, hit, threatened and verbally assaulted.

The hospital previously reported around 100 incidents an month before the pandemic, but is now averaging 350 incidents a month.
