Kent and Ottawa Counties to require masks for preschool through sixth grade

The Kent County Health Department and Ottawa County Department of Public Health are issuing public health orders to require students in preschool through sixth grade to wear masks while at school.

Health officials say they want to protect the children who are not yet able to get vaccinated for COVID.

The order will be in effect for 60 after a vaccine is authorized for young children or until the counties are considered low risk by the CDC.

Kent County Health Administrative Health Officer Adam London says the decision was made due to a rapid increase in COVID-19 cases in the area.
