Mental health group helps HS coaches prepare to help students

Michigan is requiring every high school coach in the state to undergo mental health training.

The Michigan High School Athletic Association is partnering with the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan to implement the be nice model.

Christy Buck, executive director of the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan, says the program gives coaches the tools to recognize when players are struggling with mental health and how they can help.

The training was first mandated in 2019.
