GVSU partnering with counties to test wastewater for COVID-19

Grand Valley State University says it will expand its wastewater testing program after receiving state grants.

GVSU's Annis Water Resources Institute and Cell and Molecular Biology Department have been working with municipalities to test wastewater for COVID-19 for months.

Officials say the testing can show where outbreaks of the virus are up to a week before people see symptoms.

The program will continue for at least the next two years.
