Western Theological Seminary and Hope College are working together to giver inmates at the Muskegon Correctional Facility the opportunity to get a 4-year degree.
The Hope-Western Prison Education Program began as a pilot in March 2019 as they offered cohorts of 20 inmates noncredit courses.
Officials say they are ready to transition into the degree-granting phase of then program.
Michigan Department of Corrections spokesman Chris Gautz says education is a great tool when trying to reduce recidivism rates.
