As people across the country celebrate the Fourth of July this weekend, its important to remember that fireworks can be triggering for veterans with PTSD.
Dr. Sarah Mallis, a clinical psychologist with the Department of Veterans Affairs, says fireworks can sound like gunfire that veterans may have experienced in combat.
Mallis says you should be conscious of your veteran neighbors as you celebrate the holiday.
The VA recommends veterans share with their family or neighbors if fireworks bother them, however some may not want to talk about it.
