Muskegon County Commissioner suggests conservative areas secede

Muskegon County commissioner Malinda Pego pitched an idea this week that county her fellow members off guard.

Pego, a Republican who represents the northeast district 7, suggested the conservative areas of Muskegon County secede and create their own county.

The motion failed 7-2.

Pego did not consult with the municipalities before making the motion.

Other commissioners questioned the movement asking if this was what the community wanted.

Pego says she was only suggesting the area pursue legal counsel for the idea.
