GR trying to collect million in unpaid parking tickets

The city of Grand Rapids is trying to collect on millions of dollars of unpaid parking tickets.

After not charging for parking for three months last year, the city is hiring a company to try to collect on the 40,000 unpaid parking tickets that total $2.4 million.

The city says the tickets could date back five years and the bills will be rolling out over the next eight months.

Grand Rapids City Treasurer John Globensky says the company that previously held the job wasn't bringing in the money and was taking a higher cut of what they did collect.
