Charges filed in Wayland-based sex trafficking ring

Almost two years after police raided a Wayland home, two people are facing charges for allegedly running a prostitution ring.

Fifty-one-year-old Robert Henry Grigsby of Wayland is charged with two counts of accepting earnings form prostitution, two counts of transportation for prostitution, one count of sex trafficking and one count of conspiracy to conduct criminal enterprise.

Thirty-nine-year-old Vanessa Anne Phillips of Grand Rapids is charged with two counts of accepting earnings of prostitution, two counts of sex trafficking and a count of conspiracy to conduct a criminal enterprise.

The investigation into Grigsby began in October 2018.

In July 2019, police said they expected charges in the next few weeks.

It is unclear what took so long for the charges to be issued.
