The Grand Rapids City Commission approved policy this week allowing donors to request to rename parks, buildings or major features in the city.
Parks and Recreation Director David Marquardt says the names of features around the city tell an important history of Grand Rapids.
The requests will have to be approved and must include a historic event, place, person or a major gift.
The city says renaming will only be allowed if it served its best interest.
