The first Grand Rapids Promise Zone scholar will be graduating from Grand Rapids Community College this week.
Mykel Johnson is part of the automotive program and it took him one year to finish.
GRCC's Evan Macklin says knowing Johnson will graduate without debt as he heads into his career is a generation changer.
The school has welcomes 250 students through the program.
The Grand Rapids Promise Zone scholarship covers tuition for high school graduates who live within the city of Grand Rapids.
The scholarship applies to students who graduated after the class of 2020 and attended one of 24 high schools.
