GR City Commission makes moves on riverfront amphitheater

The Grand Rapids City Commission approved an option on Tuesday for the Grand Rapids/Kent County Convention and Visitors Bureau to buy a 11.6 acre site.

The site has created speculation over the last decade on what the area will be used for.

The site is currently home to the Grand Rapids Public Works Department and a city office building but could be the new home to a 10,000-plus seat amphitheater.

The price tag on the project is $24.5 million.
