More Calls to Add Lifeguards to South Haven Beaches after Summer Drownings

SOUTH HAVEN (WOOD-AM) - There are increasing calls to return lifeguards to the beaches of South Haven after the city reported three drownings last year.

Brandon Chambers, 18, disappeared in Lake Michigan while swimming near South Beach last September. Sue Chambers tells WOOD-TV that the presence of a lifeguard could have saved her grandson's life.

City councilors have created a beach safety subcommittee, but the issue didn't appear on the city's annual priorities list for the new fiscal year.
