South Haven looking into social district in downtown area

The City of South Haven is looking into allowing a social zone to purchase and consume alcohol downtown in a designated area.

Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids have already established social zones.

The idea was brought up to help local businesses as the Coronavirus pandemic continues.

Individuals against the idea are worried of an increase in fights, litter, noise and drunk driving.

There are also concerns the social zones would hurt the city's reputation of a family friendly area.
