Michigan lawmakers were back to business on Wednesday with new safety protocols at the Capitol.
State police were outside the building patrolling most of the day.
Visitors saw signs in the lobby saying the open carry ban is in effect.
State Rep. David LaGrand of Grand Rapids says he is concerned about the safety of his colleagues and fellow citizens.
However some lawmakers say the protocols are a bit extreme.
