GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - Helen Devos Children's Hospital is celebrating its first decade on Monday.
The glassy, "big blue" building opened on the Medical Mile in Grand Rapids on January 11, 2011.
On average, the hospital admits more than 9,000 children each year. Over 8,700 surgeries are performed annually.
"Those who saw the need years ago for specialized care for our youngest patients were true visionaries," Spectrum Health President and CEO Tina Freese Decker said in a statement. "Without them, Helen Devos Children's Hospital would not be the vital community resource it is today."
