NEW BUFFALO (WOOD-AM) - A sheriff's deputy in Berrien County is being hailed as a hero after rescuing a woman from a burning house on New Year's Eve.
Michael Pellerito helped the woman, 72, out of her New Buffalo home around midnight.
"The windows were pretty high up off the ground," Pellerito said. "She was unable to lift herself out or walk without an assistant walker."
She was treated for smoke inhalation.
