Kalamazoo works to improve homeless encampments

Leaders in Kalamazoo are providing resources to help individuals experiencing homelessness improve their living conditions.

Vice President of Impact Engagement for United Way of Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region Alyssa Stewart says they have no plans to force anyone out of the growing homeless encampment population.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have recommended communities not clear encampments unless their is individual shelter space for everyone at the camp and a plan to safely transport people.

Stewart says they are trying to bring services like dumpsters and port-a-potties to the encampments.
