ACLU calls emergency homeless shelter a risk for COVID-19

The American Civil Liberties Union says clearing out Heartside Park and using an emergency homeless shelter is a risk for COVID-19.

Grand Rapids police cleared out almost 50 tents and 100 people from Heartside Park on Monday.

Mel Trotter Ministries created an overflow shelter at the old Purple East building across the street from the park.

However, the ACLU says this violates guidelines by the CDC to not clear out an encampment unless individual housing is available.
