For Helping Restaurant, Lowell Officer is Being Honored

LOWELL, Mich. - Jesalyn Heard, a Lowell Police Officer, will receive the Police Chief Commendation Award for going beyond expectations for helping a local restaurant.

On Saturday, Hong Kong Buffet's Ming Zou told Heard he prepared a takeout order of over $40 for a customer who lived in Battle Creek, and accidentally ordered from the Lowell restaurant.

Heard offered to pay for the food in order to help the restaurant. Zou initially hesitated, but Heard insisted, and paid for the full $43.67 bill, along with a $5 tip.
