GRPD ShotSpotter heads to a vote

The Grand Rapids City Commission will vote on the controversial ShotSpotter technology during their November 17 meeting.

The technology puts electronic ears in neighborhoods where gun violence is common.

The program costs $500,000 and would be covered by the CARES Act grant for violence reduction.

However, city leaders are not sure if the grant can be used for other crime reduction efforts and the money must be used by the end of the year.
