A.J. Hinch Tabbed as New Tigers Skipper

DETROIT, Mich. - The Detroit Tigers have found a new manager.

GM Al Avila made the announcement of the hiring Friday afternoon.

Hinch was the manager of the Houston Astros from 2015 to 2019, helping the team to a World Series win in 2017. However, he was handed a one-year suspension by Major League Baseball in 2020, due to his involvement in the Astros cheating scandal.

Despite his past, Hinch is ready to move forward with his new team.

“I’d like to thank Chris Ilitch and Al Avila for giving me a chance and the opportunity to get back in the dugout to lead this historic ballclub,” Hinch said in a statement on Friday.

Hinch played for the Tigers during the 2003 season.
