LANSING, Mich. (WOOD TV8) — Federal authorities say a Wisconsin man charged in a plot to kidnap Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has been released from jail after posting a $10,000 cash bail.

Brenda Yaskal , the Columbia County District Attorney requested a $1 million bail for Brian Higgins, but Judge Todd Hepler set the lower amount, according to WISC-TV.

Federal authorities say Higgins was released Monday night.

Prosecutors allege Higgins, 51, of Wisconsin Dells, was part of a crew conducting surveillance for the kidnapping plot.
