GM to make $2 billion investment in Tennessee plant, $153 million in MI

DETROIT, Mich. (WLNS/AP)—Officials with General Motors sad the auto giant plans to spend $2 billion to convert its Spring Hill, Tennessee, assembly plant into a third U.S. site to build electric vehicles.

In addition to the Tennessee investment, GM also says it will spend another $153 million to upgrade five Michigan factories for future vehicles.

Company officials said GM will build the small electric SUV, the Cadillac Lyriq, at the Spring Hill factory. GM said Tuesday that gasoline-powered Cadillac SUVs will continue to be built at the plant.
