Key takeaways from President Trump and Joe Biden's dueling town halls

Americans Watch As President Trump And Challenger Joe Biden Hold Separate Town Halls

BY NIALL STANAGE AND JONATHAN EASLEY

The President and his Democratic challenger Joe Biden vied for voters' attention with competing town halls on Thursday night that diverged dramatically in tone.

The competing NBC and ABC events respectively, were inherently controversial because they occurred after the cancellation of a debate originally scheduled for the same evening.

President Trump on Thursday had a number of combative moments sure to draw headlines.

Candidate Biden, ahead in most polls, simply sought to stay the course.

Some of the main takeaways from the dueling TV town halls:

Candidate Biden was evasive on court packing but keeps the door open

Former V.P. Biden for weeks has refused to give a straight answer on whether he’d be open to adding justices to the Supreme Court if Republicans confirm Trump’s nominee Amy Coney Barrett.

On Thursday night Biden was again evasive with George Stephanopoulos, who pushed the nominee to “level” with the voters before Election Day.

Pres. Trump waffled on QAnon question

Several political analyst said the biggest news out of either event was President Trump’s long-winded response on QAnon, the online movement centered around a baseless but sprawling conspiracy theory.
