GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Health Department officials say Michigan has confirmed more than 1,000 new cases of coronavirus as the state’s outbreak trends up.

State health officials said the Friday update included 1,095 new cases and seven more deaths related to COVID-19. That brings the total number of cases to 133,134 since the virus was first detected in Michigan in March and the total number of deaths to 6,876.

Labs tested 43,511 samples for the virus Thursday and 1,645 came back positive, a rate of 3.78%.

Officials added that while hospitals are still within capacity and have plenty of ventilators available, the number of adults hospitalized with the virus has growing fairly steadily for at least a couple weeks.
