ROCHESTER, N.Y. (NEXSTAR) —Just as many parts of the country are preparing for the upcoming hunting season, hunters may have trouble finding guns and ammunition at their local retailers.

Gun shop owners in some cities report a rush on supplies as people look to get outdoors this fall and winter. Because of that, stores are having a tough time keeping up with the high demand they’ve seen in 2020.

One clear example demonstrating the extremely high demand came from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

The department says it made about $300,000 on the first day of hunting licensing and permitting in 2019. In 2020, that number dramatically increased to $900,000

And across the nation, numerous firearms retailers have reported increases in both ammunition and guns sales since the pandemic initially hit.
