GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD/AP) — Joe Biden, former Vice President and current Democratic nominee for president spent part of Wednesday in Michigan with less than eight weeks until the election and only days ahead of absentee ballots being cast.

Candidate Biden is the second high-profile political visit to the state in the last week and half. Vice President Mike Pence was in Traverse City at the end of August and President Trump will be in the state Thursday.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Republican Party State Chairman Laura Cox have both weighed on their candidates’ relative positions in Michigan.

Whitmer told News 8, “I do know that Joe Biden’s strategy around containing COVID and re-engaging our economy, improving America’s leadership in the world and insuring that we are competitive and have good jobs is really critical in the midst of everything we’re coping with."

GOP Chair Cox talked about President Trump’s prospects in the state.

Cox noted, “We think he’s in a great place in Michigan, right exactly where we want him to be. I think the race is going to continue to tighten up and in the end, the President comes out with a victory.”
