GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — According to a police report obtained by Target 8, aKent County sheriff’s deputy who recently resigned had lied about his involvement in an off-duty hit-and-run crash “just to see if I could get away with it,”
Records show Kenyatta Weaver Jr.,resigned in August, about a month after the crash on Grand Rapids’ Southeast side.
Target 8 learned at the time, he was working under a “last-chance” agreement for lies he told his own department about his involvement in an off-duty brawl last year.
Police reports show in the most recent case, a witness who paints road markings told Grand Rapids police he was working about 12:30 a.m. on July 23 when he saw a car “flying” at speeds he estimated at more than 100 mph south on Jefferson Avenue SE, according to a police report obtained by Target 8 through a public records request.
