COVID-19 pandemic sees chocolate sales spike

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Have you been binging on chocolate during the pandemic? If so, you're not alone.

According to a report from the National Confectioners Association , chocolate sales have skyrocketed in the past few months, The data shows demand for chocolate has surpassed demand for overall candy from March to August.

The report showed premium chocolate saw the largest growth with a sales spike of 12.5%, and non-premium chocolate saw a sales increase of 5.5%. The overall candy market increased by 3.8%.

Analysts say the chocolate market is a $20 billion industry.
