Slow sinking sailboat causes oil spill in Lake Macatawa

PARK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say the Coast Guard is investigating after a sinking sailboat caused some oil to spill into Lake Macatawa in Ottawa County.

The incident occurred at 8:30 Saturday morning at Eldean Shipyard in Park Township, near Holland.

No one was on board and the boat was docked when it began to sink, Coast Guard officials said.

Coast Guard estimated that 50 gallons of diesel fuel spilled into the water.
