City Attorney Thwarts Discussion About Reducing Police Funding

GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - Some Grand Rapids City Commission members were expecting a discussion about a proposed $9 million reduction in funding for the Grand Rapids Police Department.

After hours of public comment, that did not happen.

The city attorney said state laws prohibit the commission from making that kind of change on an existing budget without collaboration from the city manager.
