Pride Center: No Grand Rapids Pride Festival in 2020

GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - There's disappointment in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities following the cancellation of this year's Grand Rapids Pride Festival.

The city's pride center said the coronavirus pandemic gave them no other choice.

Thomas Pierce, the executive director of the pride center, said the move will likely result in a six-digit financial hit.

“In 2020, the greatest concern is that this event is the largest fundraiser for our organization," Pierce told WOOD-TV.

It's the first time in over 30 years that Grand Rapids will not host a pride festival.
