Grand Rapids Police Unions Warn Against Proposed Cuts

GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - A $9.4 million cut to the Grand Rapids Police Department budget could send 78 officers to the unemployment line, representatives with the city's police unions said yesterday.

The cut was proposed by a city commissioner.

The Grand Rapids Police Officers Association and Grand Rapids Police Command Officers Association also said that the move would impact the city's highest-crime neighborhoods most.
