GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A one-two punch of storms caused by the remnants of Cristobal Tuesday and Wednesday has left tens of thousands of people in West Michigan without power as of midday Friday.
Crews plan to keep working and hope to get most customers still without service back online Friday Consumers Energy said. But even with about 1,600 people on the job, some in the hardest-hit areas, like Branch, Kent and particularly Calhoun counties, may not have power until the weekend.
As of 12 p.m. Friday, Consumers energy said about 82,000 customers without service statewide. In West Michigan over 6,600 were still without electricity in Kent County, and over 23,000 without power in Calhoun county.
