April unemployment rate in Michigan jumps to 22.7%

(via WLNS TV) Nearly 25% of Michigan’s total workforce was without work in April.

State officials reported an unemployment rate of 22.7 percent Wednesday – an increase of 18.4 percent from the month before.

In a press release Governor Gretchen Whitmer said,  “We are going through an unprecedented crisis, unlike anything we’ve seen in our lifetime. This virus has devastated families across the state and put hardworking Michiganders out of a job for months. I will continue working around the clock to ensure everyone who qualifies for unemployment benefits receives them during this time."
