Sen. Shirkey wants 'anyone seen brandishing a firearm' at Capitol arrested

VIA WWJ NEWS

A group of protestors demonstrating to end 'stay at home' restrictions in Michigan due to COVID-19 said they plan to hold another protest Thursday in Lansing.

At the same time Michigan Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey has stated publicly that he wants anyone seen brandishing a firearm to be arrested.

Shirkey made his remarks as both the Michigan State Police and state elected officials were preparing to face another group of demonstrators at the Capitol, some of them likely armed.

Republic Mike Shirkey, from Clarklake, MI, says he knows people with permits can bring guns into the Capitol building, but if the weapons are used to intimidate or threaten, law enforcement should not hesitate to act.

Michigan law notes that brandishing a weapon is described as pointing, waving about or displaying "in a threatening manner with the intent to induce fear in another person."

Sen. Shirkey went on to say those who would brandish a gun in the Capitol should be "properly handcuffed, taken in (and) fingerprinted."
