LANSING, Mich. (WOOD) — Several hundred protesters have gathered at Michigan's Capitol Building this morning in a show of opposition to the debated extension of Michigan’s state of emergency as well as Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s current 'stay-home, stay-safe' order.
Under the current 'state of emergency' order, the government is allowed to take special actions to deal with a crisis, is set to expire on Thursday. It is separate from the executive orders Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has issued, like the stay-at-home order.
Gov. Whitmer is asking that Legislature to extend it for another 28 more days, though some Republicans lawmakers want to see the economy reopen more quickly.
