President Trump Expected To Order Meat-Processing Plants To Stay Open

As the U.S. is bracing for growing disruptions to the food supply from the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, an unnamed source at the White House said President Donald Trump was planning to mandate that meat-processing plants stay open, declaring them critical infrastructure

The President will likely utilize the Defense Production Act to order the large meat-processors to stay open during the pandemic. It's also expected the feds will provide additional protective gear for plant employees as well as guidance, according to the person.

While making comments at the White House Tuesday, Trump said he planned to sign an order aimed at Tyson Foods Inc.’s liability, which he viewed as “a road block” for the company.
