Aides to President Trump considering scaling back daily COVID-19 briefings

WASHINGTON — The President's top aides and allies are said to be worried about the impact that his lengthy Coronavirus briefings may be backfiring politically. After nearly 50 daily coronavirus press briefings in March and April, administration officials say they are evaluating whether to reduce his participation in news conferences in the weeks to come.

Discussion began after the Thursday evening briefing when President Trump suggested that some doctors might be able to inject household cleaning items or disinfectants to deter the virus.

Friday's White House coronavirus briefing was the briefest to date, at just 21 minutes. President Trump also did not take any questions from reporters.
