Consumers Energy primed to respond to power outages

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Consumers Energy says there weren’t many power outages as expected Saturday afternoon, but there are plenty of workers ready to roll if ice causes widespread problems overnight.

Roger Morgenstern, a spokesman for the Jackson-based utility, said there weren’t many power outages in the early part of the day. However, he said there could be more storms Saturday night and Sunday.

“We are feeling pretty good that it’s not as bad as we thought it was going to be,” he said.

As 6:45 p.m., about 1,900 customers in Montcalm County were without power. However, there were not many other outages in West Michigan during that time.

Officials in Kent and Kalamazoo counties say there were no major issues in the early part of Saturday. However, officials say crews are prepared to respond to the changing weather conditions.
